2012-06-20

译文来自communications of the acm。

Yang Zhenkun, Zhang Qing, Wang Yong and Jia Chao
As the total data on the globe reached the shocking quantity of 1.8ZB (1.8 trillion gigabytes) by the end of 2011 (the IDC Digital Universe study), we are being overwhelmed by various kinds of big data produced by ourselves. Extracting knowledge from these big data is a great challenge. In this article, Dr. Yang et al. from Taobao Marketplace, which is one of the biggest online shopping web site in China, list several data types, compare two kinds of data processing – offline and online, and show some amazing information mined from real trade data at Taobao.com.

Dr. Wu, the Safety Director of Shanda Interactive Entertainment Ltd. discusses the key technical solutions for these problems.
Addressing Big Data Challenge in Life Science
Wang Bingqiang, Qiu Shuang, Guo Guixin, and Ye Zhiqiang
While the development of genome sequencing technology promotes the change of life science and relevant technologies guided by data-driven bioinformatics research, the big data challenge is becoming more and more serious. Cloud computing and heterogeneous computing provide promising solution to address this challenge.
