YOCSEF AC had the first meeting at CCF on 18 of May. The attendees are Zesheng Tang, Qianfang Jin, Zide Du (CCF); Hong Mei, Yaoxue Zhang, Tieniu Tan, Maosong Sun, Weixing Jiang and Zhexei Xu. Mr. Huai, Yu, Tang and Meng apologized for being absent, because of some emergency business. But other four members, unknown.
The meeting was hosted by Zide Du. Prof. Tang gave a short speech. As regard with the objects of YOCSEF, he pointed out that, first goal of YOCSEF is to exchange on academic, it should have characteristics of New, quickly and active. The second is to call for more young scientists taking part in the activities organized by CCF. Third is to find and promote scientists who are interested in CCF, making CCF more vivid, more attractive and more powerful. He hoped that all AC members should pay much attention to YOCSEF; YOCSEF should have such figures: democracy, science, easy atmosphere for communicating different points of view, stimulating fresh ideas from different people. And finally, try to unit a great number of computer workers or scientists, letting them get benefits from the YOCSEF or CCF.
Attendees consider that the formal English name for the forum is 'CCF Young Computer Scientists and Engineers Forum', shortly YOCSEF. The original Chinese name is unchanged. The size of the forum will not be bigger than 40 people who should be selected precisely by AC members. The period of forum will be once three month, and this year two forums will be held, in August and November respectively. The time length is a whole day, from morning to evening (8 hours). The term of each AC will prolong two years, and then, not less than half of AC members have to be fresh. And the chairmen also. Each AC member at most has two terms. Attendees suggested Prof. Yaoxue Zhang (from Tsinghua Univ.) to be a candidate of Chairman, Tieniu Tan (from Automation Institute, CAS) to be a vice Chairman, and Weiqing Tang (Institute of Computing Tech, CAS) to be a academic secretary. But they have to be approved by all AC members on next meeting.
A detailed rule has to be made afterwards.
Promotion of the forum and getting money from the market are necessary, however, quality of the forum is fatal.
As regard with the topics, attendees offered several for candidates, but still not make final decision, to be discussed in detail later on. Hope every AC member contributes his good suggestions.
